I see great potential in the treasure cubes. So, what if whe could place a collectable pickaxe? That way, players couldn't use it until they collect it. It could also go for flame, paint, and all types of blocks.

Naaah

A pickaxe only to collect shiny cubes? thats a bit useless... I mean you normaly place shiny cubes on hidden places, so you wouldn't collect them easily. Ari should focus more one other blocks, like sign blocks or maybe up-side-down ramps or something like that.

No, not just for treasure cubes! His idea is to make the normal pickaxe collectable, so you can't destroy blocks at all until you find it.

Would be great for adventure maps because you could prevent the players from cheating by placing the pickaxe in some secret spot (or at the end of the course)

I think he's suggesting the normal PC Minecraft gameplay style (survival mode or whatever they call it) but instead of crafting stuff, you find it and then you can use it. So you'd be able to create a world where they have to wander around looking for each type of block.

So they'd start with no blocks at all except grass and tree and leaf I guess. But once they find a wood block they gain the ability to build with wood. But you don't have to go around bashing on trees to make the wood, you just find one block of wood and then you can build a whole house.

To build off this idea, what if there were collectible keys? These keys could then be used to open doors of matching color.

Keys? Now we're talking about the ability to practically create your own adventure video game!! Plus, the pickaxe could be like the cheat code you unlock at the end of the game!

All the more reason it's called EDEN.

I think this would be great mechanics to create some real adventure mode, without even having to call it like this because the builder decides if to keep the pickaxe or to hide it somewhere etc, so you could build adventure maps without needing a new type of world

That's mostly what I had in mind for this.

I think you misunderstood. You don't start out with nothing, you start with everything like normal. But you have the option to place down collectible blocks that grant you the ability to place a certain block. This isn't Minecraft.

Love the idea of keys as well. Keys are something I am also adding to my own voxel engine. And, as always, I'd love to see it in Eden :)

I think you misunderstood. You don't start out with nothing, you start with everything like normal. But you have the option to place down collectible blocks that grant you the ability to place a certain block. This isn't Minecraft.

It would be up to the creator of the world, of course. You have to decide if the pickaxe is going to be hidden, right? And what if you upload that world, then you decide to improve your world some more and you need the pickaxe to do that? You'd go off to find wherever the pickaxe is hidden, build your new thing, then hide the pickaxe again, and then upload the world.

Well, then if you can do all of that, you can also decide to hide the trampoline block... or any other block, or all the blocks. And then if somebody share that world, then it's like starting out completely from nothing. Which might be cool.

Of course, a new world would give you all the blocks just like it does now. But if you're proposing a new feature that allows you to hide something and find it, I think the player, meaning you or me or anyone who makes worlds in Eden, should be able to hide everything.

Yes, of course, like I said. I was only correcting BrixXx's first reply, as you so obviously knew :P  right from the start. (No, not really, but I've edited my post to make it more clear now.  )
